Letter to Brighton Preschool Parents

June 21, 2021

Brighton Center Parents,

This letter is to inform you of an incident that occurred Friday in our center. One of the children in our transition classroom used a riding toy to unlatch an emergency exit gate and exited the playground. In our 50-year history, no incident of this type has happened at this facility. We are grateful that the student was brought back safely into our care and is in the care of his parents. The child’s parents and all regulatory agencies were informed immediately. We have a zero-tolerance policy on the safety of children and policies around leaving children in the care of substitutes which was violated by the teacher. We terminated the teacher immediately on Friday. Additionally, we notified the parents in that classroom on Friday.

We felt the need to ensure that we fully investigated the situation, and our time and attention was on ensuring the family was supported, the child was attended to and reviewing our protocols and procedures to ensure nothing like this could occur ever again. We apologize that this delayed our communication to parents outside the classroom.

We have taken the situation seriously and are working diligently to ensure that we communicate in a timely manner that protects the privacy of the student and aligns with requirements from reporting agencies. If you have any questions, please contact me directly at kjefferies@brightonsa.org or 210-826-4492.

Sincerely,

Kim Jefferies Signature
